Precognitive Dreams
One common phenomenon
that almost everyone has experienced at one time or another is called
precognitive dreaming. This is when one dreams of a rather unusual event
that actually takes place the following day or shortly after the dream.
The historical
examples of this are found in every culture.
This is possibly
the oldest form of divination where no special tools or medicines are
needed. Just a dream. Oneiromancy is one definition used for this type
of divination.
Many people refer
to these types of dreams as prophetic dreams. Prophetic dreams are more
often associated with large scale global events rather than an occurance
that is significant only to the individual dreamer and his or her immediate
surroundings. For instance, a dream of planes flying into big tall buildings
the Monday night before the tragic 911 event would be considered a prophetic
dream. Unless of course the dreamer was one of the few who knew of the
plan. Other examples would be dreams of earthquakes, Tsunamis, hurricanes,
fires, or other catstrophies.
Prophetic dreams
do not have to be negative. Those are many times easier to remember
because the impact has the potential of being more emotional.
A individually
precognitive dream would be more in the rhealms of meeting a long lost
friend who just happened to be in town at the grocery store and dreaming
of that person the night before. Or more commonly, the passing of a
loved one. And the classic opposite: dreaming of the precise time and
gender of an expected delivery.
Pay close attention
to any dreams that may be of another language. Note the way the words
sound and the feelings associated with those words. Do you seem to be
in another country? Are the people panicking, fleeing, having festivities,
dancing? Read the behavior of the world around you in the dream if you
are unable to translate the language. When having dreams of this nature,
it is interesting to look at current world events for any corresponding
patterns.
We are in the process
of collecting and displaying these types of dreams. As the database
grows it will be easy to determine if there are any particular patterns
in these dreams. Please contribute your experience if you would like
to be part of this process.
The
following two experiences have been submitted by Oceanpony:
One night as everyone was leaving a party at my house,
there was a girl that had never been there before. She left and as she
walked out the door and I was closing it I remembered my dream. I turned
to my brother and said I dreamed this, Julie will be back to kiss me
goodnight. She had driven away and several minutes later there was a
knock at the door and when I opened it, she said I did not kiss you
goodnight. She kissed me and left and my brothers mouth dropped to his
chest.
My wife and I had attended a Willie Nelson 4th of July
picnic in Ok. We had walked down to a creek where they had set up makeshift
showers for people to get under and cool off. I turned to my wife and
said again. I dreamed this. Im about to get hit. I looked up and one
of the poles about 30ft was falling. I was frozen I couldnt move I could
only stand there and watch it fall on top of me. It knocked me out and
I came to just saying over and over again. I dreamed this everyone but
my wife thought I was just out of it. She like my brother was freaked
out by it since I told her before the pole ever broke loose. Again I
remember nothing of the dream other than I knew was it went into play
I was fully aware of what would happen next and was able to mention
it to someone prior to it taking place.
